Clive Muccio-Johnson - Qualified FGASA Guide
Born in Lincolnshire, England, I first got bitten by the Africa bug in 1991 when I hitch-hiked with a friend around Botswana and Zimbabwe. Since then I have travelled through 17 African countries including little know Togo, Benin, Central African Republic and the Ivory Coast to name but a few.
My working life has been varied from growing tropical house plants to being a qualified holistic therapist, a wine adviser and security guard.
In January 2004 after selling my house, car and all my personal belongings I left permanently for Africa. First stop was South Africa where I trained as a guide and am now a member of FGASA (Field Guides Association of Southern Africa). Next stop was Damaraland in Namibia where I was the Project Leader working for an elephant/people conservation project looking after volunteers from around the world. This is how my now wife, Roma and I met! After a year and a half with elephants the next stop was working for Okonjima Lodge, home of the AfriCat Foundation. For 2 of the 3 years Roma and I managed the very exclusive and beautiful African house, “The Villa”.
My next stop was P.A.W.S., you’ve read the info, now come and join us!
Roma Muccio-Johnson
Born and raised in the wilds of Bromley, England, I was schooled locally and stumbled into my first job at the age of eighteen which luckily for me was in the Music Industry. This was also the age I experienced my first visit to Africa and became hooked on this amazing continent returning another 8 times to date.
Deciding there must be more to life than Bromley, I packed my bags and flew off to Rimini, Italy to become a Travel Rep for a large tour operator for the next four years. It proved to be amazing fun and a great experience. Due to the unfortunate collapse of the tour operator I returned to the UK and slotted back into the music industry where I stayed for the next 14 years. During this time however, I decided to take a year out and I set off back-packing around the world starting in Delhi and ending in New York. There were so many wonderful experiences, places and highlights, too many to begin to mention but suffice to say a trip never to be forgotten. The travel bug was by now well and truly in my blood…!
Once again back in the UK, I returned to my old job back in the music which I loved, however I still yearned for something more. The opportunity arose when I took a sabbatical and spent 3 months living on the desert floor in Damaraland, Namibia working for a volunteer elephant/people conservation project . This is also where I met Clive who was the Project Leader, love blossomed and the rest is history as they say….!
Together we worked for Okonjima Lodge, home of the Africat Foundation, for 3 years, of which 2 of those we managed the very exclusive and beautiful African house, “The Villa”.
I’m now running P.A.W.S. with Clive and we aim to run a truly fulfilling and exciting conservation project - this is where YOU come in…..!!
